Providing Opportunities for Workforce Re-Entry
Employers across Lexington are gearing up for an upcoming Career Fair Offers at the Davis Park Workforce Center, aimed at individuals seeking to re-enter the job market. The event, titled “Look Good, Feel Good Lexington,” is designed to connect job seekers with over 25 potential employers while offering resources to boost their confidence and employability.
For many attendees, finding stable employment is a critical step in rebuilding their lives. Amanda Biller, a mother of five, has faced significant challenges in securing a job due to her criminal record. “Because of the background I’ve had, there are so many jobs that won’t hire you just because of a felony or even a misdemeanor,” Biller explained.
Securing employment is not just about financial independence for Biller—it’s about providing a better future for her children. “It could get me and my kids a better home. It could give us a better life. You never know what opportunities are beyond,” she added. Having been out of prison for over 15 years, she is now pursuing a Career Fair Offers as a medical assistant and hopes the job fair will lead to new opportunities as she completes her studies at Med Quest.
Building Confidence Through Professional Presentation
One of the event’s core missions is to help job seekers feel confident as they step into the workforce. Attendees are encouraged to register online, where they can also indicate any clothing or attire needs. Organizers believe that dressing professionally can enhance self-esteem and improve job prospects.
Troy Black and Sydney DeLong, co-founders of the event, emphasize the impact of a polished appearance. “It’s always something I’ve lived by, so I wanted to bring that into the community as well,” Black said. To support this, the Career Fair Offers will resume-building assistance, free clothing, and haircuts to help attendees present themselves confidently during job interviews.
Biller agrees that first impressions matter in the hiring process. “You have to have that confidence. If you walk into a place and you’re not presentable, are you really going to get that job?” she said, stressing the importance of preparation and self-assurance.
A Fresh Start for Many Job Seekers
The “Look Good, Feel Good Lexington” event represents more than just a job fair—it offers a second chance to individuals who may have struggled to find employment due to their past. Many participants see it as a stepping stone to financial stability and personal growth.
Biller, determined to set an example for her children, hopes to demonstrate that setbacks do not define a person’s future. “No matter how old you are, you can keep going,” she said, reflecting the resilience and perseverance she wants to instill in her family.
With dozens of employers and support services available, the event serves as a beacon of hope for those looking to rebuild their lives and move toward a brighter future.
