A New Era Begins for the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra
The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra (SOL) has announced the appointment of 33-year-old Polish conductor Dawid Runtz as its new Chief Conductor. He will officially assume the role in 2026 but is already slated to lead several performances throughout 2025, including high-profile appearances at the Vaduz Classic Festival and the prestigious Wiener Konzerthaus. Runtz’s selection marks a significant moment for the orchestra as it continues to evolve its artistic vision and international profile.
Founded in 1988, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra has become a prominent musical institution in Europe, attracting world-renowned soloists such as Andrea Bocelli, Lang Lang, Jonas Kaufmann, and Nigel Kennedy. With the upcoming leadership of Runtz, the orchestra aims to build on its strong legacy while ushering in a new phase of dynamic programming and international engagement.
Runtz’s Distinguished Background and Artistic Direction
Dawid Runtz brings with him an impressive track record of artistic leadership and international acclaim. He has conducted major orchestras including the Staatskapelle Weimar, Prague Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic, Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. From 2017 to 2025, he served as the Principal Conductor of Poland’s Royal Opera and, since 2021, he has held the position of Chief Conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic in Croatia.
With the Zagreb Philharmonic, Runtz launched an ambitious recording project under the NAXOS label, producing two albums annually to spotlight Croatian music and composers. His work has not only elevated the orchestra’s profile but also brought regional classical music to a wider global audience. Recently, Runtz also signed with Sheldon Artists for international general management and exclusive worldwide representation, signaling a continued upward trajectory in his career.
His extensive experience and innovative approach to programming are expected to significantly influence the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra’s future performances, recording initiatives, and global collaborations.
Looking Ahead to a Promising Collaboration
The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra has recently enjoyed a surge in international visibility, with notable performances at venues such as Tonhalle Maag in Zürich, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, and the Strasbourg Opera. In the coming years, under Runtz’s baton, the ensemble is scheduled to perform at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2025 and participate in the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in 2026.
Runtz expressed deep enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, “Every encounter with the musicians of the SOL is a source of true musical joy. It is an honor for me that we will now shape the future of this orchestra together.” His appointment has been met with optimism from both the orchestra and the broader classical music community, who anticipate a fruitful and inspiring collaboration.
With a young and visionary conductor at the helm, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra is poised for an exciting new chapter marked by artistic excellence and global outreach
