Focus on Educational Innovation and Technology Integration

On September 6, CanvasCon 2024, an annual edtech conference organized by Instructure, the developer of Canvas LMS, will bring together educators, administrators, and education leaders in the Philippines to explore the evolving landscape of education. The event, hosted at the Grand Hyatt Manila, aims to address the emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges presented by new technologies, with a particular focus on generative AI, enhancing teacher efficiency, and improving accessibility in education.

Keynote speakers at the conference include Professor Martin Bean CBE, CEO of The Bean Centre and a prominent figure in the field of digital education. With extensive experience as Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University and The Open University, and as General Manager of Microsoft’s global Education Products Group, Bean will offer his insights on the transformative trends shaping education. His presentation will explore how educational institutions can harness innovation and disruption to create more engaging and sustainable learning experiences for students.

Ryan Lufkin, Vice President for Global Academic Strategy at Instructure, will also be returning to the Philippines as a keynote speaker. Following his talk on ‘AI with Boundaries’ at last year’s event, Lufkin will this year delve into the evolving role of AI in education and discuss what the future holds for educational institutions as they navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by these advancements.

Highlighting Local Initiatives and Collaborative Solutions

Instructure’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Harrison Kelly, emphasized the significance of the proactive approach taken by educational institutions in the Philippines toward adopting technology-enriched learning methods. Kelly expressed excitement about providing a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration that could inspire local institutions and contribute to the broader educational landscape in the region.

CanvasCon 2024 will feature contributions from educators, administrators, and thought leaders from top universities in the Philippines, including De La Salle University and Holy Angel University. These participants will share pioneering teaching practices and collaborative strategies that integrate technology into their curricula. The discussions will cover current trends and challenges, highlighting how technology can enhance teaching and learning experiences, and ultimately, improve educational outcomes.

The conference will also provide a platform for addressing the specific needs of Filipino students, with sessions focusing on digital learning accessibility, the effective use of generative AI, and skills-based learning. A panel discussion featuring representatives from the University of the East and Ateneo de Manila University will explore tailored strategies to meet these needs, ensuring that educational technology benefits all students.

Exploring AI-Powered Innovations and the Future of Learning

In addition to the discussions and presentations, Instructure will unveil its latest AI-powered innovations, including Intelligent Insights, a new product designed to improve efficiencies among educators and administrators through the use of AI and analytics. The conference sessions will cover various themes, including personalized learning, faculty development, and data-driven decision-making, all aimed at enhancing the ongoing dialogue about the impact of technology on education.

Harrison Kelly reiterated the importance of embracing technology in education, stating that it is not just about keeping up with innovation but about unlocking new potentials for teaching and learning that were previously unimaginable. This forward-looking approach to education is expected to drive significant changes in how institutions prepare students for the future, making CanvasCon 2024 a pivotal event for educators and leaders in the Philippines and beyond.
