Tillamook School District 9 (TSD) in Oregon has announced a strategic move to elevate its K-6 science curriculum by integrating cutting-edge educational technology from Discovery Education. This initiative is part of the district’s broader mission to equip students with the academic, artistic, and social competencies needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Serving approximately 2,100 students across seven schools and one virtual academy, TSD sought a solution that would support both rigorous academic learning and personalized instruction. After an extensive evaluation process, the district chose a package of digital tools designed to enhance science instruction and student engagement. The newly adopted resources include Discovery Education Experience and Discovery Education Science Techbooks, two comprehensive tools already widely used in classrooms nationwide.

The selected resources aim to provide dynamic and engaging content aligned with Oregon state science standards. Discovery Education Experience offers cross-curricular content, interactive lessons, and real-world career exploration materials. It’s designed to support differentiated instruction, helping teachers meet students where they are academically and emotionally.
Meanwhile, Discovery Education Science Techbooks serve as a comprehensive digital science curriculum that incorporates interactive content, hands-on investigations, and STEM-focused activities. These Techbooks support three-dimensional learning and include built-in teacher guides, print supplements, and classroom kits to make science instruction both accessible and effective.
Importantly, the Science Techbooks meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Tier III standards, confirming their impact through evidence-based research. Studies show regular classroom use of these resources improves academic outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds and school settings.
To ensure a smooth and effective implementation, TSD educators will receive tailored professional development from Discovery Education’s team of instructional experts. These training sessions are designed to maximize the return on the district’s edtech investment by equipping teachers with best practices for integrating digital tools into everyday instruction.
