  • ZWIE Schools have partnered with The Education University of Hong Kong to expand student pathways and academic collaboration in the Greater Bay Area.
  • The agreement creates clearer transitions to higher education through recommendation schemes, internships, and joint admission activities.
  • It also strengthens teacher development and educational research through faculty exchange and shared professional programs.

Two Zhongshan Whampoa Institute of Education schools operating under ZWIE Schools and The Education University of Hong Kong have signed a cooperation agreement to expand student pathways, academic exchange, and practical learning opportunities across the Greater Bay Area.

On January 14, 2026, Guangzhou Zhongshan Whampoa School for Hong Kong and Macao Students and Foshan Zhongshan Whampoa Star raise School for Hong Kong and Macao Students formalized a Memorandum of Cooperation with The Education University of Hong Kong. The agreement establishes structured collaboration focused on student development, teacher exchange, and closer alignment between secondary and higher education systems.

New Student Pathways and Experiential Learning

Under the agreement, the two ZWIE Schools will introduce EdUHK’s Mainland Secondary School Principals Recommendation Scheme. This initiative allows eligible secondary school students to receive formal recommendations for EdUHK programs, creating a clearer transition from secondary to tertiary education. The collaboration also includes opportunities for outstanding EdUHK students to take part in school visits, on campus immersion activities, and internship placements within the ZWIE Schools network.

The partner institutions plan to jointly organize admission seminars and parent engagement activities. These sessions are intended to help families better understand academic pathways, program expectations, and skill development aligned with future study and career needs. Students will be able to complete learning activities and teaching practice without leaving the Greater Bay Area, supporting continuity in both academic progress and personal life.

EdUHK Vice President Academic Professor May Cheng May Hung said the agreement represents a concrete step toward deeper educational exchange. She noted that the collaboration covers multiple areas that support practical skill development among students and professional interaction among educators. According to EdUHK, the partnership is designed to strengthen connections between schools and universities while maintaining academic standards.

Focus on Teacher Development and Regional Education Links

The cooperation also places emphasis on teacher development and teaching research. Faculty exchanges and shared professional activities are expected to encourage knowledge transfer between secondary and higher education educators. Zhongshan Whampoa School Principal Dr Peggy Zhai said the partnership supports closer integration between academic theory and classroom practice, with benefits for both students and teachers at ZWIE Schools.

The agreement is grounded in shared educational values and recognition of institutional strengths. EdUHK is a publicly funded higher education institution with a focus on teacher education, social sciences, and humanities. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject for education, EdUHK placed among the top institutions globally and within Asia. The university has also received a five-star rating in the QS Stars University Ratings.

ZWIE Schools, established by the Zhongshan Whampoa Institute of Education, serve Hong Kong and Macao students studying in the Greater Bay Area. The Guangzhou campus holds authorization for the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programme continuum and has received international accreditation. The schools have expanded steadily over the past two decades, focusing on curriculum integration and student mobility across regional education systems.

ZWIE has built an education framework that blends international curriculum models with local learning contexts. The organization supports multiple IB World Schools and has developed a continuous education pathway from early years through secondary education. Its curriculum approach emphasizes holistic learning, language development, and cross-cultural understanding.

Recent academic outcomes from ZWIE schools show strong university placement results across Hong Kong, mainland China, and international institutions. Graduates from different curriculum streams have secured admissions to leading universities, reflecting the school’s focus on academic preparation and student readiness.

The cooperation agreement with EdUHK marks a new phase in linking secondary and higher education within the region. By formalizing student pathways, experiential learning, and teacher collaboration, the partnership aims to strengthen education continuity for students in the Greater Bay Area while supporting long term development of the regional education ecosystem.
