High School Students Dive into Finance at Seton Hall University’s Summer Program
Seton Hall University recently hosted its summer pre-college program, “Investing 101: Managing a Live Financial Portfolio,” offering high school students a deep dive into the world of finance. Guided by Mark Schild, Associate Dean at the Stillman School of Business, the program provided a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in managing real-world investment portfolios. The course aimed to equip students with foundational financial principles and hands-on skills necessary for effective investment management.
Course Highlights and Learning Experience
During the program, students explored the essentials of financial markets through a series of interactive lectures and discussions. They were introduced to key concepts such as market dynamics, asset classes, and the critical role investors play in economic development. With Schild’s extensive background in the financial industry, participants received expert guidance on navigating these complex subjects.

Reflecting on the success of the program, Dean Schild expressed satisfaction with the students’ progress. “Our aim was to provide a thorough understanding of investment principles along with practical experience,” Schild said. “It was incredibly rewarding to see their financial skills develop over the course of the week.”
Dean Joyce Strawser of the Stillman School of Business highlighted the program’s role in shaping future financial leaders. “This initiative reflects our commitment to preparing young individuals for financial leadership roles.
